We first meet the 2-1B Medical Droid tending to Luke in the Bacta Tank after his encounter with the Wampa and his night inside the smelly Taun Taun's belly. We last see him fixing up Luke's stump after Vader has amputated his hand in the duel at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. 2-1B is an unobtrusive character whose main job seems to be cleaning up after Luke's mishaps.

As a blue and silver droid with his ridged legs the 2-1B Medical Droid figure is a very distinctive droid and I always quite liked him with his pointy medical stick which presumably cures all ailments.

2-1B does beg the question as to why a droid would need breathing apparatus. This seems quite strange as he is presumably not oxygen dependant. K-2SO makes this point wonderfully in Rogue One when he wryly reminds his companions that he can survive in space.

The conversation between Luke and the 2-1B Medical Droid is very perfunctionary ('it will take a while to evacuate the T-47s', says 2-1B). It is the sort of technical small talk we see elsewhere in the Star Wars canon where such conversations are used as filler between moments of action. Other instances include Luke's comments to Obi-Wan in A New Hope about the difficulty of getting a good price for his particular model of Landspeeder, and the conversation between Imperial Stormtroopers in Rogue One about models of VT-15 on Scariff.

In The Return of the Jedi there is a 2-1B-like medical droid chained to the wall being gradually incinerated. I have a 2-1B Medical Droid figure which is missing his breathing apparatus which works rather well on the Power of the Force 8D8 figure's torture rack, but 2-1B's articulation doesn't allow for his arms and legs being stretched out to put him in a similar position to that in which we see him in the film.

Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
