The 8D8 torture droid was very much a background figure at Jabba's Palace. The EV-9D9 torture droid was a much more prominent character but we didn't get an action figure for this until the Last 17 figures arrived. I'm surprised that anyone even remembered who 8D8 was after the first time watching Return of the Jedi and I suspect that you might have had to re-watch it a couple of times on VHS before it registered what role this 8D8 action figure played in the film.

The cardback for the Kenner 8D8 action figure provides no clues either and just gives his name. The photo has him pushing a contraption in the dark which gives a clue but we can't make out exactly what he's doing or why.

The later Power of the Force 8D8 droid makes much more sense as he comes with a torture rack which you can hang a droid upside down on which really played into the hands of those kids who took pleasure in dismembering, disfiguring or even burning their action figures.

Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
