Because the Chief Chirpa action figure was the plainest of all the Kenner Ewoks released he quickly became the de facto generic army builder for scene on Endor, and stood in for just about every other Ewok in The Return of the Jedi except for the ones we had figures for. Chief Chirpa would be set to task manning the Ewok Catapult or Glider, throwing spears at Imperial Stormtroopers or just standing around in the Ewok Village Playset making up the numbers.

As for the Chief Chirpa figure itself, it's a really nice design. The facial detail on Chief Chirpa is really good especially when you look close up at his teeth and the shape of his nose. His paws also have a really good sturdy grip for holding his staff.
I only recently acquired a complete Kenner Chief Chirpa figure, having previously picked up dozens of incomplete Ewoks over the years. The original staff accessory for Chirpa had just stubbornly refused to turn up in any of the job lots I bought, so I eventually had to make the decision to just buy a complete figure.
On some Chief Chripa figures there is yellowing on areas that weren't protected by his headdress which look a little bit like tan lines. The most common area of paint loss appears to be around Chief Chirpa's black belt and knife sheath.
I have one rather interesting variant of the Chief Chirpa figure which I picked up as part of a job lot on eBay. I'd initially discounted this figure as just a Chief Chirpa that someone had painted over when I looked at the photos, so when it arrived I was mildly surprised to find that the figure had no articulation and was made of rubber. After some research I managed to identify it as a Communist era Polish bootleg Chief Chirpa figure. I'm assuming it's pretty rare as I couldn't find one for sale on eBay and there were very few photos of the figure available online. (see below for photos). The Chief Chirpa figure's belt, knife and necklace have been painted green and his lips are red. There are no holes in the action figure's feet for a figure stand.
Having finally found a website on Polish bootleg figures I now know a little more (see here: http://www.starwarsy.pl/opowiadania/podroby_eng.htm towards the bottom of the page. This Chief Chirpa figure was apparently part of a particular range of Polish bootlegs which consisted of 27 figures which were all fixed limb and cast from the original genuine figures in plastic or rubber. According to this source the Ewoks are the rarest of these figures, with Logray being rarest of all.
I was recently lucky enough to pick up a second Chief Chirpa bootleg figure; this time a semi-articulated Mexican bootleg. Whilst this Mexican knock-off isn't anywhere near so rare as it's Polish counterpart this one is quite unsual in that I haven't come across another example which has the green hood. Also this little Mexican Ewok still has it's accessory stem although none of the original accessories. This is a fairly accurate and conservative figure for a Mexican bootleg since they could often be pretty outlandish. Some of them came in pretty garish colours and there was even a two-headed Darth Vader and a C-3PO with his arms stuck on an accessory stalk which came out of his head.
All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.
All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
