Kenner Gamorrean Guard Action Figure: Overview

Gamorrean Guard Figure Kenner

The Gamorrean Guard is just the most dependable of vintage Star Wars action figures. They're fat, green and pig-faced but (like Weebles) these figures just don't fall down. They are sturdy, flat footed, sandal wearers who can stand on their own two feet whilst your other vintage Star Wars action figures engage in a game of galactic dominoes. What's more, even with age, the Gamorrean Guard figure suffers from very little paint loss which is concentrated mostly around the horns. Let's hear it for the Gamorrean Guard, perhaps the most underrated action figure in the entire Kenner canon.

And the Gamorrean Guard figure is also a pretty versatile axe-wielding, slavering pig-man as well. He's there to stand guard in Jabba's throne room, ready to be scooped up and gobbled by your Rancor Monster, quick to waddle over and stop C-3PO and R2-D2 at the palace door, and a cumbersome but brutal oaf to back up your skiff guard figures.

You can also imagine your obese Gamorrean Guard figure strolling down the sand banks around the Great Pit of Carkoon with a glass of Southern Comfort in his hand, very pleased with his new pair of sandals, 'whatever's comfortable'!

Kenner Gamorrean Guard Figure Variants

There are quite a number of variants amongst the Kenner Gamorrean Guard figures. Although I haven't been through my entire collection of Gamorrean Guards to pick out all the variants as yet, I have singled out a Macau light green one, and a very dark green variant with dark grey armour with the country of origin missing (No COO). The very dark green variant is my favorite as with smaller, further set back eyes, narrower teeth and a narrower nose this Gamorrean Guard figures looks (in my opinion) more realistic than all the others.

Whilst going through my Kenner Gamorrean Guard figures I also came across one oddity / factory error. This is a Gamorrean Guard figure where the COO is just given as H.K. rather than the full Hong Kong. This variant usually has dark coloured skin, but on this example the right arm and leg are a lighter colour than the left leg and arm and the right shoulder armour is even darker than usual.

I picked up quite a huge job lot of Gamorrean Guard figures on eBay; more than I could possibly ever use.

The Kenner Rancor Monster holds a Gamorrean Guard figure really well but he can only hold the one of them.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
