Kenner Lobot Action Figure: Overview

Lobot Figure Kenner Vintage front

The back of the Kenner Lobot action figure's cybernetic headgear often seems to suffer quite a bit of paint loss, perhaps because he got more handling with fingers at the back than at the front and was mostly stored right-way-up rather than face down.

Having noticed this led me to do a few quick tests on Kenner Star Wars figures and it seems that most of their heads don't actually touch the floor when you lay them on their backs. Even the Biker Scout I tried (who has a rear protuberance on his helmet) barely made contact with the floor. Lobot's headgear however seems to make contact with the floor every time that you lay him on his back which might explain the common paint loss in this area.

You do get a little bit of paint loss sometimes around the eyes and eyebrows of this Lobot action figure, but there's not much extra detail on his face above the base layer of paint so there's not much to lose. In fact, my advice would be to lay Lobot face down when he's in storage and he might be better preserved.

When you get a nice version of the original Kenner Lobot, you can see that the facial detail on this The Empire Strikes Back action figure is incredibly good for its age. The nose is particularly well moulded, and the shape of the head and facial detail is also well executed.

Lobot's name is a rather obvious contraction of the word lobotomy, which makes an allusion to the cybernetic headgear which controls his brain activity. It is one of the numerous aptronyms which occur Star Wars naming conventions. See my article on Ephant Mon and Star Wars Naming Conventions.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
