The Kenner Snaggletooth figure always seemed like the badass of the 1978 vintage Cantina action figures with his long ape like arms and monkey feet. By contrast Hammerhead and Walrus Man looked much more passive. Not to mention that Walrus Man had flippers for feet. It would just feel wrong fighting someone with flippers. I think that as an action figure the vintage Snaggletooth often stood in for Dr Ezavan as Walrus Man's companion in the Cantina and somehow overtook Ezavan in our imaginations as the character that imposes himself upon Luke Skywalker like the stereotypical pub bore in A New Hope. In this way, the Kenner action figures informed our memories of the films almost as much as the films themselves did.
In fact, out of all the vintage Kenner action figures I think Snaggletooth is the one who represents a character who was the most in the background in A New Hope. We get a fleeting but very memorable glimpse of Hammerhead, and at least two sightings of a Death Star Droid, but Snaggletooth is an even more shadowy character.
I always remember Snaggletooth holding a Han Solo blaster but when I consult old photos and other authorities it seems he could be holding either this or an Imperial Stormtrooper blaster so I've photographed him with both weapons.

I only own the red Snaggletooth and I've never really had much interest in the blue one; not even in picking up a repro. In terms of variation the Zutton from the Power of the Jedi range does lend something to the mix but anything more than that in one Cantina scene would be overkill I fear.
I really like that Hasbro kept the original Snaggletooth design for the belt when they designed the Zutton action figure.
The join in the vintage Snaggletooth's head is often highly visible as is also the case with quite a lot of early Kenner action figures including Hammerhead as one notable example. Nonetheless with his bright red space suit and hirsute paws Sanggletooth was a fabulous action figure for his day.
When you think about it, having grey fur, a grey face and a black head of receding hair really doesn't make any sense at all, but I don't think anyone ever complained about this.
All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.
All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
