As I've mentioned elsewhere, the Kenner Walrus Man action figure seemed much more passive than the character in the film. His flipper feet and walrus face (which had been de-tusked) didn't really single him out as the brute who needs his arm chopping off by Obi-Wan. Later known as Ponda Baba, we had to wait until the POTF2 figures before we got an action figure for his counterpart and partner in crime Dr. Ezavan.

I have examples of both the white-mouthed and pink-mouthed versions of the action figure. It has to be said that in A New Hope, Walrus Man/Ponda's mouth piece looks slightly like an inflamed labia. But they weren't going to call him Labia Man now were they? His mouth peice is quite prone to paint loss and this shows up quite a lot with the undercoat of paint being a dark green colour.

The shades of blue and orange on Walrus Man's outfit locate him firmly in the 1970s, just as does Hammerhead's blue vest. These two action figures are somehow more of their time than many other of the original Kenner figures.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
