Kenner Weequay Action Figure: Overview

Weequay skiff guard Figure complete

Of all Jabba's Skiff guards, the vintage Kenner Weequay action figure was by far the best in my opinion. He looked like something out of Clive Barker's Nightbreed with his dreadlocks and screwed-up horror movie face. With his arms moulded to hold his vibro axe at an angle in both hands Weequay looked so much more animated than Nikto, Klaatu or Barada for that matter. In fact, the Kenner Weequay figure does not even look too out of place displayed with much more recent and detailed Hasbro Star Wars figures which is a really credit to the toy makers at Kenner in the 1980s.

Close up you can see a level of detail and texture on the Weequay figure's face which is quite impressive for 1983. The main fault I can find with this Weequay action figure is that viewed close up he looks blind, or like he's had his eyes gouged out with a hot teaspoon like some sort of Slum Dog Millionaire street urchin.

Kenner's use of blue on their action figures is often out of place (see Bib Fortuna and Hammerhead for instance) but with Weequay, the action figure's blue shirt is true to that he wears under his breast plate in The Return of the Jedi. Finally Kenner had found a good use for that job lot of blue paint that had been lying around forever. It's also quite a tasteful pale blue and nowhere near so outlandishly garish as that sported by the Kenner Bib Fortuna and Hammerhead figures.

I recently picked up a MOC WeeQuay figure on a Kenner 77 back. Unfortunately there's a hole in the blister but aside from this its a nice carded figure to own.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
