Luke Skywalker (Sand Storm) Action Figure: Overview

Luke Skywalker Sand Storm Figure Legacy Collection with Han and Chewie

This Legacy Collection Luke Skywalker Sand Storm figure comes with a Ben Kenobi lightsaber hilt. The ignited lightsaber (which I don't have) is rather a hybrid, as it has Ben Kenobi's hilt but is ignited in a green colour to match the one that R2-D2 fires from Jabba's sail barge so that Luke can free himself and his friends from Jabba's henchmen above the Great Pit of Carkoon. Similarly, the 30th Anniversary Collection Luke Skywalker Snowspeeder Pilot figure shipped with a Ben Kenobi Lightsaber.

Whilst this at first looks out of place, when we see Luke's new lightsaber close up in one of the deleted scenes in The Return of the Jedi the hilt is in fact incredibly similar to Ben's (this is the scene just before R2-D2 and C-3PO set off on foot to Jabba's Palace – i.e. not the sand storm one). So whilst we can say that the Ben Kenobi lightsaber which shipped with the Snowspeeder pilot figure is incorrect (as Luke still had his father's lightsaber at this point), this new lightsaber looks like it may have actually been constructed from the one Obi-Wan had when he died on the first Death Star. This creates a really big mystery as to how Luke may have got his hands on it, if he didn't fashion his new lightsaber based on that belonging the old Jedi. Luke would still have had to get his hands on a new Kyber crystal as Ben’s is dying in the duel in A New Hope and Luke's gives off a green light rather than a blue one.

In the deleted scene Luke kisses Leia goodbye on the lips outside the Millennium Falcon which perhaps explains why the scene was deleted (aside from the inaudible dialogue) as this feels very out of place in a movie in which we get the revelation that Luke and Leia are brother and sister.

Luke Skywalker Sand Storm Legacy Collection side

As for the Sand Storm action figure itself, I'm missing Luke's goggles and the ignited lightsaber. The ignited lightsaber takes us back to the deleted scene in the cave before C-3PO and R2-D2 go to Jabba's palace rather than the actual sand storm scene. In this scene Luke looks to be finishing off building his new lightsaber and he then ignites it to test that it is working. When Luke switches the lightsaber off R2-D2 is right in front of him, but the scene cuts before we see Luke hide it inside R2-D2's dome. You can see this and the deleted sand storm scene on You Tube here.

To recreate the cave scene in which Luke is about to hide his lightsaber inside R2-D2 I've used the R2-D2 figure and stand from the Power of the Force Electronic Force F/X R2-D2.

See also, the Han Solo and Chewbacca Sand Storm figures from the Legacy Collection. We had to wait until the Vintage Collection before we got sand storm figures for Lando and Leia in order to complete the scene and I don't have these figures as yet.

Other Legacy Collection Action Figures

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
