The 1990s was a decade which brought us both Brit Pop and Grunge, two forms of music that were more down to earth and quotidian than the largely escapist, glossy pop, rock and metal music of the 1980s. For the first couple of years of its run (roughtly 1995-97) the Power of the Force range of figures however went in the other direction, making our Star Wars characters look less human, less fragile and more like indestructible super heroes. This was not what people generally wanted in the 1990s.
In this beefed-up rendition of the Star Wars universe the Death Star would have had about the same impact upon Alderaan as a cup of tea upon Peter Kay's ginger biscuit, 'dunk me', 'dunk me again', 'Again!' Some of the early Power of the Force figures just removed all human frailty from the characters which looked like they could keep repeatedly doing battle with each other without mortal consequence, like some Viking Valhalla for action figures.
By the late 1990s however, the Power of the Force range really started to sort out its act and gave us some better moulds and some great new figures which we hadn't had versions of previously. These included a Wuher with Droid Detector, Joh Yowza and even a mail away Cantina Band, some cinema scene three packs such as Jabba's Dancers also really added to the diversity of what collectors could display. We were also spoilt with new vehicles and playsets including the Mos Eisley Cantina 3-D Display Diorama, a T-16 Skyhopper and the 1999 Tatooine Skiff.
Some old favorites were also improved upon including a rather fabulous 1999 Han Solo, a 1999 Darth Vader with I-TO Interogation Droid and a rather nice new mould for the Gamorrean Guard to name but a few.
All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.
All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
