Yoda (The Empire Strikes Back) Action Figure: Overview

Yoda Figure Power of the Force Yoda Figure in Luke's backpack Power of the Force

Considering its age, the facial detail on this Power of the Force Yoda action figure isn't too bad. He sits quite well and he fits into his backpack quite well. The backpack has fairly sturdy straps which have stood the test of time and still work after a fashion (until you try and attach it to Luke's back).

The backpack looks a little bit like a bag for life and once you've attached it to Luke and put Yoda inside you are very lucky if you can get the straps to stay fastened. I have three of these backbacks and none of them fasten properly.

One disappointing thing about this Yoda figure and his backpack, along with the Power of the Force Luke Skywalker Dagobah figure is that they didn't extend upon or develop any further the possibilities of play and display which had already existed for their vintage predecessors. You essentially put the backpack on Luke and put Yoda in the backpack just as you had done in the 1980s with the vintage Kenner versions of the action figures.

Only in later action figures would we see the possibilities start to multiply for Dagobah, firstly in 1998 with the Power of the Force Yoda with cooking pot, with a Luke that could do hand stands as well as carry Yoda in the Original Trilogy Collection, a Darth Vader with Luke's face and a Saga Collection Hoth R2-D2 with accessories from the back of Luke's X-Wing, including his lunch box and lamp and so forth.

Other Power of the Force Action Figures

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
