C-3PO Figure (Battle of Endor) - Saga Collection, 2006 Action Figure Star Wars...

C-3PO (Battle of Endor) Action Figure: Overview

C-3PO Ewok Throne

I ended up buying three separate job lots from eBay in order to complete this brilliant Saga Collection C-3PO Battle of Endor action figure. In one job lot came two of the thrones, in another came the struts to carry the throne and in the third came the C-3PO figure himself, all spread out over 18 months or so.

In the right light you can see flashes of green light reflecting off the Battle of Endor C-3PO's body which gives it a real Endor feel and makes it a great counterpart to the Endor R2-D2 with Cargo Net from the 30th Anniversary Collection which has grass stains over its body, and also the Original Trilogy Chewbacca with the green tinges on his fur.

Apparently there were two versions of this Battle of Endor C-3PO action figure and I have the first one with the knees unpainted.

It is probably no co-incidence that in the same movie that Darth Vader lets go of his hubris and returns to being a more humble and benign Anakin Skywalker, C-3PO is inversely elevated to the role of a God and overlord given to him by the Ewoks. C-3PO's fate often seems to be inextricably linked to and even to foretell the imminent fate of his subsequent masters. This role reversal could well be interpreted as part of the same pattern.

As a point of interest, The Return of the Jedi introduces us to a sequence of characters on thrones for the first time. We also have the villain Jabba the Hutt on his throne on Tatooine and the Sith Emperor Palpatine upon his throne on the second Death Star. C-3PO as such is the only 'goodie' we see occupy a throne. On the one hand this provides a comic contrast to the villains on thrones, but on the other there is the subtle suggestion that C-3PO might actually be worthy of the throne upon which he is temporarily placed. This, in fact, might not be the world turned upside-down, lord of misrule scenario which it seems to be at face value. Actually, as the balance of the Force is about to be restored by the destruction of Emperor Palpatine, C-3PO's ascending to the throne on Endor might actually be read as the axis of good and evil in the galaxy being set right again, as Palpatine is toppled off his. In fact, we see a similar contrast on Mustafar in The Revenge of the Sith when C-3PO is (for the first time) complete, whole and shiny just at the same point his master and creator Anakin/Vader is cut in half and burnt to cinders. In both the third movies from these two trilogies, just as C-3PO is elevated (literally or metaphorically), the Dark Side takes a fall.

See my articles on the hidden significance of C-3PO in the Star Wars Trilogies: C-3PO and the Amputation Motif in the Star Wars Films and C-3PO Darth Vader's First Child and the Bespin Reunion.

For more information about the Ewoks mistaking C-3PO for a god, see my article on Religion in the Star Wars Movies: Theology and Monotheism in the Star Wars Movies.

To create the floating effect in the next photo I propped up the Battle of Endor C-3PO figure's Ewok throne with the clear end of a cocktail stick container and then Photoshop'ed out the most obvious of the reflections. It might have looked better slightly higher up but the effect still isn't too bad.

Other Saga Collection Action Figures

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
