This Saga Collection Major Bren Derlin action figure gives a name and an identity that was previously lacking with the generic Kenner Hoth Rebel Commander. Derlin is nicely moulded and painted but some knee articulation would have been nice as would a little snow on his boots and uniform. The figure has a properly military major's moustache.

It's incredible to think that the last representation which we had of the Major was the 1980 Hoth Rebel Commander over a quarter of a century earlier.

A repaint of the Bren Derling (Battle Of Hoth) action figure was released with just the title of Rebel Officer in the 30th Anniversary Hoth Ultimate Battle Pack and it seems a shame that, having given the character an identity in 2006, it was quickly taken away again in the 2007 30th Anniversary rendition of the figure.

Alongside other new Hoth Rebel action figures from the decade such as General McQuarrie, General Rieekan and Toyrn Farr, Major Bren Derling really helps to add some depth and realism to Hoth dioramas and displays.

Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
