Mace Windu (Geonosian Rescue) Action Figure: Overview

Mace Windu Figure decapitating Jango Fett Figure

This Saga Series action figure represents Mace Windu at the Geonosian Arena mid-battle. Mace is letting out a battle cry which seems uncharacteristic for a Jedi and more in keeping with a Viking marauder. This is a Jedi with a temper, and a more natural warrior rather than a peace keeper. It's a bit unfortunate that he decapitates his opponent Jango Fett in a sandy arena which is oddly reminiscent of executions in a Saudi Arabian football stadium. You can't help feeling that if things had been different Mace Windu would have made an exceptionally good Sith Lord.

This is the first time we clearly see a Jedi decapitate a live opponent in battle (as opposed to a Battle Droid) and it is an interesting counterpoint to Anakin's massacre of the Tusken Raiders shortly earlier in the film. Anakin's actions take him slightly closer to the Dark Side, but for some reason Mace Windu's actions leave him unchanged, or at least not noticeably so. The scene however does help begin to blur the lines between right and wrong and good and evil in the conflict between the Separatists and the Republic and establishes that Anakin and Windu are perhaps the two least suited Jedi to taking on Palpatine in The Revenge of the Sith being as they are the ones most vulnerable to straying from Jedi core values.

It is of note that it is Obi-Wan Kenobi who regards lightsabers to be a civilised weapon, perhaps because unlike Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu and Yoda he never lopped anyone's head off with one. In fact, in A New Hope when Ben tells Luke that a lightsaber is 'an elegant weapon for a more civilised age' he seems to be forgetting the number of times it was used to decapitate an opponent or chop them in half.

The packaging text for this Mace Windu (Geonosian Rescue) figure tells a story which is in direct conflict with the character and the action figure itself: 'Calm and controlled - Mace Windu is a noble Jedi Master' (see http://jedibusiness.com/figureDetails.aspx?id=1441&img=4). There is nothing calm and controlled about Windu in this particular moment in The Attack of the Clones. This is a Jedi with all his rage unleashed in battle, and at many other moments in the first three films we see Windu as a character who's rage is simmering just beneath the surface of a calm exterior.

As for the Saga Series Geonosian Rescue Mace Windu action figure itself it's very nicely sculpted and the detail on the boots is particularly good. The ball joints on Windu's elbows are a little bit conspicuous and the right arm can become loose if the slashing action is over-used.

The magnet in the right hand allows the Geonosian Rescue action figure to look very dramatic when posed with his lightsaber using this feature.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
