WEG-1618 - Star Tours Disney Collection 2002 Action Figure: Overview

The WEG-1618 figure from the Star Tours Collection very much has the feel of an Attack of the Clones droid which is unsurprising bearing in mind the year of his release. He looks particularly suited to hanging around the Coruscant space port as a cargo droid for the scene in which Anakin and Padmé board the transport to Naboo disguised as peasants.

I suspect that WEG-1618 is actually a rather cleverly named droid; 1618 being the year of the start of The Thirty Years War in Europe (1618-1648) and the movie The Attack of the Clones being about the start of a galactic war which (timed from this movie to the end of The Return of the Jedi) also looks to last roughly thirty years.

The naming of WEG-1618 wouldn't be the only discernable allusion to The Thrity Years War within the Star Wars movies. The Thrity Years War was precipitated by an event known as The Defenestraion of Prague in which someone was thrown from a window as a form of political protest. Similarly, the very first scene of combat at the first battle in the Clone Wars features Mace Windu being cast from the balcony by Jango Fett's flame thrower into the arena. Again, in The Revenge of the Sith you can witness the moment the Republic shatters and becomes the Empire when Palpatine/ Sidious uses his Force lightning to cast Windu out of the window of his chambers. The phonetic similarity between Windu and window now starts to make sense.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
