Aurra Sing Action Figure: Overview

Aurra Sing Figure with sniper rifle

The protuberance on Aurra Sing's head is supposed to represent a built-in antenna. In the case of the Clone Wars Collection Aurra Sing action figure it looks a little bit too fleshy like some Burroughs-esque alien typewriter's phallus from Naked Lunch. I'm scared to type any more in case I get covered in neurotic, narcotic typewriter jism.

I really like the Clone Wars Aurra Sing figure's accessories, especially the sniper rifle.

Sing appears momentarily as a spectator of the pod race in The Phantom Menace and her character is fleshed out as a bounty hunter in the Clone Wars animated cartoon series.

As a background character at the Boonta Eve pod race in The Phantom Menace Aurra Sing added a tiny bit of gravitas and mystery in a comparable way to what Boba Fett added to The Empire Strikes Back before he had any background story. This is exactly what a Star Wars bounty hunter should do.

The glimpse of Aurra Sing is much needed as well as a counter-balance to the almost slapstick comedy of the race itself and the commentary of Fode and Beed and the buffonary of Jar Jar Binks etc. This is Star Wars doing the whacky races and perhaps taking it a little too far, but it shows that even on a corrupt planet like Tatooine the world is a more light-hearted place before the shadow of the Sith and the Empire falls over it.

The glimpse of Aurra Sing almost provides a taste of things to come as she seems to belong to a colder, darker world. As such, Sing was a very good choice of character to introduce as a bounty hunter into the Clone Wars series.

With her antenna, Aurra Sing fits loosely into the category of characters with additional body parts in the Star Wars trilogies. Other supernumerary limbed Star Wars characters and figures include Fode and Beed, Dexter Jettster, General Grievous, Nabrun Leids and Gasgano. The weight of them is definitely within the prequel Trilogy movies, and this emphasis on extra limbs balances against the theme of limbs being amputated in the Original Trilogy from the Cantina scene onwards.

There's almost a fulcrum which swings between characters with extra limbs early on (three at least in Episodes One and Two) to the loss of limbs the further we get into the story. This reaches both a crescendo and a turning point with the defeat of General Grievous and then with Anakin's defeat on Mustafar. From there on in the emphasis is towards the Icelandic Saga trope of limb amputation and away from the multi-limbed curiosities of the prequel trilogy. The multi-limbed characters start out by generally providing a lighthearted backdrop to events (Fode and Beed, Dexter Jettster), and the characters who start losing their limbs in ever more extreme ways suggest a movement away from comedy and towards tragedy.

Other Clone Wars Collection Action Figures

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
