C-3PO Figure (The Phantom Menace) Action Figure: Overview

C-3PO Figure Episode one Collection front C-3PO Figure Episode one Collection side

The Phantom Menace iteration of a C-3PO action figure represents the protocol droid in his naked and unfinished state. And, this is how he remains since Anakin casually neglects him before leaving Tatooine to start life anew as a Padawan learner.

In many ways the half-finished android C-3PO of the first movie echoes the creation of the cyborg Darth Vader in the third movie. In The Phantom Menace we see Anakin switching on C-3PO and in The Revenge of the Sith (to all intents and purposes) we see Sidious switching on the newly created cyborg Darth Vader. With all the lighthearted jokes about C-3PO being naked it's easy to miss this. However, the parallel is solidified when the two characters try to walk for the first time. Both C-3PO and Vader are very shaky on their legs. C-3PO complains that the floor is moving as he tries to stabilise himself, and Vader steps very awkwardly from the operating table and with the newly added height he struggles to find his footing. Right from their births Darth Vader and his first child C-3PO seem inextricably linked together.

In fact, I would go so far as to say, the parallel and the joke (if it is such a thing) is even extended in Rogue One when Director Krennic arrives on Mustafar unannounced to see Darth Vader. Vader is floating in a Bacta Tank when Krennic arrives and the parallel with his human son Luke in the Bacta Tank in The Empire Strikes Back is unmissable. It's much easier to miss the chronologically closer parallel with C-3PO taking an oil bath at the Lars Homestead whilst exclaiming 'thank the Maker'. Only shortly earlier his maker had (to all intents and purposes) been taking a bath back on Mustafar before being disturbed by Director Krennic as part of a sequence of events which brings C-3PO to Tatooine and to his own bath time. In recent movies Disney (for some reason) seems compelled to show us our favorite Star Wars characters bathing, and we now even have Han Solo and Chewbacca taking a shower together in Solo: A Star Wars Story, as well as Finn's own Bacta Tank mishap in The Last Jedi.

The three characters had already been inextricably linked through numerous other motifs throughout the films, but this bath time one is perhaps the quirkiest of all. See my article C-3PO, Darth Vader's first child and the Bespin Reunion.

Other Episode 1 Collection Action Figures

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
