On the one hand it did feel a bit like overkill putting two of these Hoth Speeder Bikes and Biker Scouts together for a battle pack when the speeder bikes were only ever a brief editorial addition to the battle for Echo Base in The Empire Strikes Back. On the other hand though, when I remember how easy it was to lose parts from the original vintage Speeder Bike it is perhaps prudent to have two so that spares can be pulled from one to the other.
Find Hoth Speeder Bike Patrol on eBay
There is also a Clone Wars Hoth Assault Battle Pack which features one Speeder Bike and Biker Scout, one Darth Vader and a Snow Trooper with canon. This pack feels like it has the balance much better than the Hoth Speeder Bike Patrol battle pack.
The Bikers Scout action figures which come with the Speeder Bike Patrol battle pack are nicely detailed and articulated and sit on the Speeder Bikes very well indeed.
My main gripe with the Hoth Speeder Bike Patrol battle pack is that the Speeder Bike handles are really thick Power of the Force ones which makes it really hard to get the Biker Scout's hands around them. It would have been much better to revert back to the slimmer Kenner design. The explanation for this however can be found on the date stamp of the Hoth Speeder Bikes which shows that they were originally manufactured by Tonka in 1995.
The Biker Scout figures each come with two blasters. I don't have any of the traditional style Biker Scout blasters based on the ones we seem them carry on Endor; however I can always swap the E-11 blasters over from Saga Collection Hoth Snowtroopers as I have plenty of these. I suspect that the smaller blaster is pretty much the same as the one which came with the Saga Collection Battle of Endor Biker Scout.
The two Biker Scouts action figures which came with the Speeder Bike Patrol set have grey and white armour which no doubt provides some degree of camouflage on the landscappe of Hoth. Its a shame that the Biker Scouts on Endor didn't also have camouflage as their black and white armour stands out like a sore thumb. Such a lack of camouflage now seems to stand out more as with the second trilogy troopers tend to have armour generally better suited to their environment. See for instance the Elite Corps Clone Trooper from the Saga Collection which might be considered to be pretty much the progenitor of the Biker Scout.
All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.
All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
