In essence this Kenner Tri-Pod Laser Cannon was meant to represent the heavy cannon brought into the hanger bay by Vader's snowtroopers when the Millennium Falcon escapes from Hoth. In practice, however, this mini-rig ended up lined up against the Rebel troops in re-creations of the assault on Echo Base. I can't ever remember pointing one at the Millennium Falcon as a child. The Tri-Pod Laser Cannon came in very handy as an extra bit of artillery to use against the Rebels who in terms of Hoth toys seemed to have a much bigger army than the Imperial forces.

One of the great things about the Tri-Pod Laser Cannon (as well as other mini-rigs such as the Radar Laser Cannon) is that they didn't cost much when they first hit the shops. Such affordability is in many ways a credit to Kenner in the same way that producing 3.75 inch action figures was since a toy of this size was always going to cost much less than anything on the scale of an Action Man. It was possible to collect Star Wars figures without having to save up too much (except for the bigger items), the main financial barrier being the quantity you could afford in one go. Kenner in my opinion did quite a bit to democratise childhood play, making it more available to all.
All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.
All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
