Kenner Bib Fortuna Action Figure: Overview

Deprived of his cloak and accessories the Kenner Bib Fortuna action figure lost almost all relation to the character in The Return of the Jedi, with his chunky robin's egg blue body. However, with his breast plate fixed on, his cloak wrapped under his tentacles and staff in hand the Bib Fortuna figure makes a pretty good approximation of the obsequious, weak-minded Bib from The Return of the Jedi. It beats me as to why his body is completely blue though as this makes him about as garish as the Kenner Hammerhead figure's vest, which is not at all in keeping with the dark and dirty recesses of Jabba's Palace. Just try and sell a vintage Bib Fortuna action figure without any accessories on eBay and you'll soon see what I mean - a Bib Fortuna without accessories just makes him feel very incongruous to the movie.

It's not often that we see Star Wars characters with pointy shoes but there seems to be some fashion for them at Jabba's Palace with Hermi Odle sporting pointy footwear as well as the vintage Bib Fortuna figure. The fingerless gloves were always a nice touch and very 1980s.

Bib Fortuna's name is ever so slightly indicative that he might try and read your palm or tell your fortune, but his being weak-minded enough to fall for a Jedi mind trick suggests that if he does he'll be a charlatan. That's my interpretation anyway. I can't quite see it as implying that he might be a soldier of fortune; he's not quite A-Team material.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
