Kenner Han Solo 1978 Action Figure: Overview

Vintage Han Solo Figure Large head front view

The small-headed version of the 1978 Kenner Han Solo action figure is svelte, sleek and rather a good rendition of the reckless sceptic who blasts everything in sight. And, right in character as well, Han's right arm is bent in the 'point and shoot' position, so he is always ready for action, and sit him in the Millennium Falcon and his arm rests over the controls in 'pilot position'. This first Han Solo action figure wasn't a bad effort at all. The bobble-headed figure variation of Han Solo by contrast looks rather ridiculous. You can't turn one of the greatest movie heroes of all time into a melon-headed freak, it's just not on.

That said, I do have one very good condition bobble-headed (big-headed) 1978 Han Solo figure and I do rather like him.

There are actually rather a lot of really cool bits of details on the first Kenner Han Solo action figure, from the red stripe down his pants, to the detailing and snug fit of his waistcoat and the moulded holster and belt buckle. I also like the fact that his shirt is open at the neck which gives Han that casual, scruffy look which Princess Leia is so keen to pick him up on in A New Hope.

Han does suffer rather badly from paint loss on his hair on both versions of the 1978 action figure. His waistcoat and belt though still manage to look rather stylish after all this time.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
