Rebel Fleet Trooper (Tantive IV Defender) Action Figure: Overview

For many of us the boarding of Tantive IV and its defence by the Rebel Fleet Troopers was one of the most iconic Star Wars movie moments ever and the most dramatic and exciting. This was our very first entry into the Star Wars world and the characters that inhabited it. It was a scene that we yearned desperately to recreate but which we never could until the advent of the horrifically bulky and malformed Rebel Fleet Trooper action figure of 1997. But by that point, who cared?

We didn't get a decent action figure with which to recreate the Tantive IV boarding scene until 2001 with the release of the Power of the Jedi Rebel Fleet Trooper figure with the brilliant swivel-knee articulation in that he could shoot kneeling down thus giving him a posture which was true to the film. Changing the knee articulation can be a little like figuring out the moves of a Rubik's Cube, but once you've got the hang of it this is a very versatile figure. The pistol can also be a little tricky as you need to latch the trooper's firing finger around the trigger to get it to stay on. These Rebel Trooper action figures also stand terribly and require figure stands for any sort of display to be possible unless you want them all kneeling down.

I have 11 of these Rebel Fleet Trooper action figures and I'm itching to put together some sort of proper diorama for them along with my Saga Series Captain Antilles Tantive IV Invasion figure and a platoon of Imperial Stormtroopers.

The Rebel Fleet Trooper figure has an exceptionally good blaster for the series and one which is very true to the film; arguably more detailed than that which comes with the Fans' Choice Captain Antilles action figure. The same blaster has been much re-used for later Rebel action figures and is even better than the flimsy affair that you get with some of the Black Series Hoth Rebel figures such as Toyrn Farr.

This Power of the Jedi Rebel Fleet Trooper figure came with black hair, as did the identical 2002 Saga Series issue of the action figure. However, there was also a Saga Series four-pack troop builder and these Rebel Trooper figures came with a combination of hair colours including black-haired, brown-haired and fair-haired versions of the figure.

The Power of the Jedi Rebel Fleet Trooper has some of the most innovative knee articulation of any Star Wars action figure and enables you to put the Trooper in the classic kneel and shoot pose from the movie which is brilliant.

With the release of the Star Wars Movie Rogue One these Rebel Fleet Trooper action figures now have even more play and display possibilities and you can have them futilely fending off Darth Vader as he slashes and force pushes his way through them to retrieve the stolen plans for the Death Star.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
