The main redeeming feature of the Hoth Rebel Trooper from this accessory set is that he is unique and as such can add a bit of variety to your Hoth Rebel army. He's a pretty basic figure though and (as pointed out on the Jedi Business website) the figure is a mismash of a Luke Skywalker Hoth body and a Rebel Soldier head.
Over various job lots I have managed to acquire everything from the Hoth Survival Accessory Set with the exception of the rather ridiculous miniature tank which I finally managed to get hold of several years after I already had everything else. I do have several gripes about the mini-tank which came with the Hoth Survival Accessory Set. First off this is something which was never seen in the Empire Strikes Back and something which doesn't even have an Expanded Universe feel to it. It is just plain out of keeping with anything that the Rebel Alliance had on the planet Hoth. Even the colour is wrong and the Khaki colour of the tank suggests desert warfare and certainly not combat on an ice planet. On my tank the missiles don't even click in properly and just sort of hang out of the end.
I tried several times to attach the backpack to the Trooper but it just wasn't made to fit.
I particularly like the crate. It's a great accessory for the evacution of Hoth and you could even migrate it to Dagobah as part of Luke's luggage or to Bespin for Darth Vader to Force launch at Luke. It's an invaluable peice for a bit of Star Wars background scenery. The scanner is the same as that which comes with the Power of the Jedi K-3PO and the Saga Series Han Solo Hoth Rescue figure.
The breathing masks allow you to re-create the Mynock hunt scene outside the Millenium Falcon if you don't have the actual Mynock Hunt figures. These Hoth Survival masks don't fit on the Rebel Soldier which comes with the set though.
Giving us accessories that had play and display value beyond the confines of Hoth scenes was quite in the spirit of the original vintage Kenner mail away Hoth Survival Kit which as well as the Hoth accessories had contained a backpack for Luke to carry Yoda on Dagobah and a spare rifle for the bounty hunter IG-88.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.
All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
