At first look the Kenner Darth Vader's Star Destroyer Playset was quite a poorly designed piece of kit, but looks can be deceptive, especially if we consider this as a playset rather than as a ship. It came with a handle underneath for whizzing it around the room in imaginary space battles, it had Darth Vader's meditation chamber and a fair amount of space on the bridge for both the crew in the aisles, Vader and an Imperial Commander or two on the walkway, or you could even assemble your bounty hunters there.

The reality of scale meant that the Kenner Darth Vader's Star Destroyer ship/ playset could never represent more than the very foremost front tip of the bridge of a Star Destroyer and that just had to be accepted, unless Kenner were expecting us to take a mortgage out on something the size of a three bedroom semi-detached house.
These days, with the range of action figures available, we can even have a nervous looking Admiral Ozzel on board or a Captain Piett even. I've also just found a Vintage Collection Needa figure which I didn't previously know existed. This would make a splendid addition to any Star Destroyer playset if you're willing to overlook that he captained a completely different Star Destroyer. Also, if you have the Original Trilogy Collection Darth Vader 500th figure he looks pretty good in the meditation chamber.
If you've ever tried standing all six The Empire Strikes Back bounty hunters on the bridge of this Darth Vader's Star Destroyer playset to recreate the Executor scene you'll know that this simply won't work. If you do manage to get all of them stood up they seem to fall over every few minutes, so it's not really fit for long term display. I think the set may have benefited from a few more figure stands on the top deck.
My Darth Vader's Star Destroyer Playset is missing the battery cover and a few other parts but this doesn't really seem to diminish its play or display value much. I'm not sure I can even remember what the batteries were for after all these years. I'll have to test and see if the electrics still work on it at some point.
All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.
All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
