The Kenner AT-AT was just a genius of a toy and the next big thing for Christmas after the release of the Millennium Falcon. You knew you were opening up something good when you had an AT-AT wrapped up under the Christmas tree. And, the giant AT-AT walker felt real and authentic in its relationship with the The Empire Strikes Back, a Titan standing over your action figures which lent a real tangible Star Wars feel. Not to mention that the All Terrain Armoured Transport was big enough to put on a lead and take for a walk. The Kenner AT-AT was sturdy, durable and at 8 years old it made me want to go out and shoot my own stills and moving pictures and make my own Star Wars movie outside the front of the house.

To complete your Kenner AT-AT you needed a whole crew of figures, AT-AT drivers (*'s 2), General Veers (AT-AT Commander) and a complement of Hoth Snow Troopers (Imperial Stormtrooper – Hoth Battle Gear). These were all very well designed and durable figures, none of which suffered badly from paint loss unlike some of the Bespin figures. The Snow Trooper skirt was likely to tear, rip or stretch quite early on. Just the job of putting it on the figure stretched the vinyl badly and these skirts are now quite a rarity today. The Hoth Trooper rifles have fared slightly better, being so much more difficult to lose than the Rebel solider blasters, there are still plenty of them around, and in one piece (unlike IG-88's thinner blaster rifle which was very prone to snapping).
Perhaps my best vintage Kenner AT-AT purchase recently came in a job lot of 5 large ship carcasses which I snapped up on eBay for £11.00 inc postage. The AT-AT carcass was used to make a Hoth playset with the help of some ply board, expanding foam and white spray paint. This now makes a great display piece for my Hoth action figures.
With two chin guns and two side guns mounted on the side of it's head the AT-AT is a frontal assault vehicle and depends purely on its armour for protection to the sides, back, top and bottom. I don't as yet have any original chin guns.
All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.
All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
