millennium Falcon - Legacy Collection Overview

Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon Dejarik chess

The Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon is an absolute triumph and arguably now as highly sought after as its vintage Kenner predecessor. The level of detail and the scale are both impressive with space in the cockpit for up to four figures the potential for play and display value is extended considerably. Unfortunately, most Chewbacca action figures don't have any knee articulation so this might present some limitations. The front cockpit seats of the Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon slide backwards and forwards so you can make more leg room if needed.

With the removable panels, you don't just have smugglers hatches but also a place for your figures to work away at repairing the Falcon for Empire Strikes Back scenes. The gunner's station is unobtrusively tucked away in a small antechamber which works very well indeed, as opposed to having it taking up room in one of the main chambers.

The Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon's landing gear consists of no less than seven legs, thus overcoming the problems of balance and stability which have plagued previous iterations of the Millennium Falcon. The ramp is a little bit on the narrow and steep side but it nonetheless looks really good and it opens and closes incredibly smoothly (a real indicator of an excellent design). The landing gear legs don't always stay in as well as I'd like but nonetheless it's the most stable Millennium Falcon I've ever owned.

I am missing a few peices for my Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon including chess peices and also the training ball. However, the ship has a distinct rattle to it so I suspect I may yet be able to recover some of these with a little bit of playing around. I did manage to find the undercarriage missile among my collection of spare missiles but as yet I still don't have the three front missiles.

Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon Scale

Whilst this Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon is much bigger than it's predecessors, there's so much packed into it that everything has been measured down to the last millimetre and there's just nothing wasted and nothing to spare. Managing to get four seats in the cockpit which can all seat figures is an achievement in itself. The Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon is made to measure for the slimmer of the 3.75 inch action figures which means that most Han Solos will fit fine, as will the vintage Kenner Chewbacca. However, larger Chewbaccas such as the Saga Series ones are slightly taller than the ceiling of the Falcon and although they will just about fit in the cockpit it soon becomes very cramped in there.

The chess set is much smaller than the Kenner or Power of the Force ones but when you seat your action figures at the table it feels nicely in scale.

Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon Electronics

The magnificence of the Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon does not become fully apparent until you start playing around with the electronics (and there are rather a lot of electronic features).

A few of the highlights are Chewbacca's roar as the chess set lights up, the conversation between Luke and Ben when Luke first practices with his father's lightsaber and also fabulous blaster effects accompanied by Han saying 'Chewie get us out of here'.

As for the lighting? Well, the lighting on this Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon is brilliant, with lighting for the cockpit, landing gear, rear light speed engine and even the chess set. The LED blue is really warm and effectively creates a great playset amibience. The cockpit is lit in a warm orange which illuminates the space well and the Dejarik chess set is also LED blue which actually gives you the feel that the holographic chess characters could move around on it.

Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon Escape Pod

Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon escape pod

This coffin-shaped escape pod has two extendable side guns and one firing missile on its undercarriage. Whilst the Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon was released in 2008 we didn't see an escape pod appear in any of the movies until 2017 in The Last Jedi when Rey uses one to get aboard Supreme Leader Snoke's Star Destroyer.

We learn in A New Hope that the Millennium Falcon actually had multiple escape pods when an Imperial Officer tells Lord Vader that 'According to the log, the crew abandoned ship right after takeoff. It must be a decoy sir. Several of the escape pods have been jettisoned'. One of these is in fact jettisoned from the Falcon's mandibles in Han Solo: A Star Wars Story. Perhaps Han neglected to log the loss of this pod at the time which then allowed him to re-log it prior to being pulled in by the Death Star's tractor beam. Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, however, gives us a much more interesting possibility. In this Star Wars off-shoot Lando Calrissian's droid L3-37 has her consciousness and navigation systems uploaded in to the ship's computer and thus survives without her body. So, perhaps L3-37 (as the ship's computer) uploaded this false information about the jettisoned escape pods to fool the Imperials (Han would have had little or no time to think to do this himself). It does feel off key though that whilst Han Solo has so little time for C-3PO, he's so in love with a ship which may well be harbouring the Artificial Intelligence of L3-37. With the advent of Star Wars Episode IX and the Han Solo spin-off there suddenly seems to be much more to say about the Millennium Falcon's escape pods than there has previously.

If you are looking for a Millennium Falcon for your collection, then this Legacy Collection ship is in my opinion the one you should choose. It has been designed with love and care and with fans in mind.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
