Sandcrawler - Original Trilogy Collection - Power of the Force Overview

Sandcrawler with door open

The Original Trilogy Collection Sandcrawler is an absolute triumph, a vehicle which just helps you recapture the spirit of A New Hope in your own home in a way never before possible since it's vintage Kenner predecessor. What could be better than having this cumbersome leviathan trundling along on its way to sell Threepio and Artoo to Owen Lars, or broken down after the Imperial Stormtroopers have slaughtered all the Jawas. As a large vehicle from so early on in the first Star Wars movie ever released it really stands out. At this stage in the film we hadn't encountered the Millennium Falcon, Imperial Tie Fighters, X-Wing Fighters etc. etc. and as such this beautiful beast really deserves pride of place in any Star Wars collection.

The Sandcrawler's main door is slightly reminiscent of the side door on the vintage Kenner AT-AT. Unfortunately it isn't on the same side as the lift.

The Sandcrawler is quite narrow which I was very grateful for since it just fits comfortably into the space I had available for it without impinging on the rest of the scene.

Much to my surprise I seem to have the correct RA-7 droid which came boxed with the Sandcrawler. I already had this from a separate job lot and it has a slightly beaten up paint job which distinguishes it from the 30th Anniversary Collection rendition of the RA-7 figure which looks to be clean. Amazingly, this RA-7 has a date stamp on it of 1998 making it the same age as the Black POTF2 Death Star Droid (it could quite easily be a re-paint of the same mould).

The first Sandcrawler to be released was a 1979 Kenner Remote Control Sandcrawler but we never saw this in the UK so far as I'm aware. Interestingly, the steps for this Sandcrawler look like they were made from exactly the same mould as the 1979 Kenner Remote Control Sandcrawler. My Sandcrawler came without the steps and when I picked some up in a job lot from eBay I initially mistook them for the Kenner ones until I looked at some photos of the Original Trilogy Sandcrawler. The steps are really narrow, but much to my surprise you can get one of the smaller Power of the Force Jawas to stand on them (see bottom photo).

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
